Personalized Learning with Educational Technology (EdTech): A Revolution in the Classroom

Educational technology is transforming traditional approaches to education and offering personalized learning pathways that adapt to the individual needs of students and learners.

Personalized Learning with Educational Technology (EdTech): A Revolution in the Classroom

Smart Application of Educational Technology and Its Role in Learner Engagement Recent analyses in the field of education show that the smart use of educational technology tools—namely platforms, software, and digital resources that provide personalized learning experiences—is one of the key factors in increasing student engagement and academic progress. This is especially true across different educational levels, from primary schools to higher and professional education. According to a survey of educational managers, 68 percent of respondents reported that their institutions use adaptive learning technologies in at least some curricula, although this share rises to 85 percent in universities and distance-learning institutions with stronger technical infrastructures. In many cases, decisions about implementing educational technologies are jointly made by teaching staff, IT specialists, and academic administrators: on average, respondents report that three main groups are involved in this process.

The Value of Personalized Learning and Rethinking Teaching Methods The value of personalized learning comes from its ability to respond to each student’s unique pace and learning style, helping to close knowledge gaps. The latest surveys show that among 18 tested features, the use of adaptive learning platforms that adjust content and feedback based on student performance has had the greatest impact on improving grades and conceptual understanding. Educational institutions adopting EdTech are beginning to rethink their teaching and assessment methods. Forty-five percent of respondents whose institutions use EdTech say that at least some of their traditional teaching methods have been fundamentally redesigned to integrate digital tools more effectively.

Teacher Oversight and Use of Data in Technology-Based Learning Educational institutions have teachers who monitor students’ use of EdTech tools and their progress, though the level of oversight and intervention varies greatly. Fifty-two percent of respondents whose institutions use EdTech say that teachers regularly review student performance data from digital platforms to identify weaknesses and provide targeted support—for example, before major exams or to adjust supplementary curricula (Figure 6). Another share, about 30 percent, say these reviews occur less frequently or that teachers have not received sufficient training to use this data. Respondents working in institutions with strong investment in teacher training and EdTech infrastructure are much more likely than others to report effective monitoring and support for personalized learning.
